Cheese-making, BBQ and music during the annual, traditional sheep shearing event that took place on Saturday, 25th of May, at the Creta Maris organic field.
The sheep-shearing event in Crete goes back to the Cretan traditions. The process in which shepherds shave their sheep is called "koures". Koures is a reason for the shepherds to spend time together, talk and socialize.
“Koures” symbolizes the joint support of the shepherds, since each of them welcomes the others and their families to help in the shearing. He hosts them in the best way, by bringing the finest of meats, veggies, fruits and drinks.
The shearing held in the early summer. It is the time when the animals are relieved from the heat of the sun.
